Heartbreak A Heart MakesThe first year we were dating,
I will never forget it.
It was a rainy day, as if to match the news.
You took my hands and told me:
"I'm moving to Africa"
At first I was strong,
I said "we'll fight this".
It was a month before-
I was still convinced we could stop it,
but you took me in your arms,
You said: "this is happening".
Then it got closer and closer,
And it became hard to be strong.
Then when we were alone,
we heard that stupid song,
And it brought us to tears.
Then the day was here,
And I slept most of the day.
If I didn't wake up how could you be leaving?
You showed me your school uniform,
Told me about the place you would stay,
Told me about your dad.
Said: "I'll be back in no time".
You kissed me and I let you go slowly,
Your fingers drifted over mine,
Drifted across and apart.
Your mom let me stay at the house when she took you to the airport,
And I cried the whole time.
Then I grabbed my things and started the walk home,
Trying to be out before she returned.

My friends used to call William "Ironman" because the first time we kissed he got a nosebleed and the taste of his blood haunted me for a long time after it. We'd only been twelve years old and apparently the anxiety spiked his blood pressure to the point of combustion... I remember that when we were forced to take sex ed a few years later we were divided into separate classes for boys and girls, in case a diagram of an ovary was too risqué and we became animalistic and started clawing at each other in our seats, but nonetheless when our teacher Ms Jacobs had explained to us what an erection was in my mind all I could picture was the blood rushing to his nose and then the slash of cranberry across my blouse.
With the idea planted in his mind it didn't take long for William's hands to start wandering, but the image persisted. Every time I thought about just letting it happen I wondered what would happen if he got too excite
